Publishing a book requires more than uploading files. Each edition needs a clear publishing identity, accurate ownership information, consistent metadata, and the correct registration records.
Tagger Press can guide authors through Canadian copyright registration, ISBN setup, imprint selection, edition information, retailer metadata, and legal-deposit requirements.
Authors may publish independently under their own name or imprint, or eligible titles may be published under the Tagger Press imprint.
The author publishes under their own name or publishing imprint.
Titles accepted for publication under the Tagger Press imprint are issued with Tagger Press as publisher of record.
Copyright generally exists automatically when an original work is created. Registration provides an official certificate that may be used as evidence of ownership. The current online CIPO filing fee is $63 CAD, and no tax is added.
Tagger Press can:
The author or designated copyright owner remains named as the owner. When an agent is listed, CIPO sends the certificate and correspondence to that agent; naming Tagger Press as agent does not transfer copyright ownership.
Government filing fees are paid in addition to Tagger Press service fees and are non-refundable once the application has been received by CIPO.
